Description of the Book:

Nine photos taken during the service Reverend Frans William Kaskinen at the Finnish Evangelical Church, which became Zion Lutheran Church during his time. He served the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church/Zion Lutheran Church from October 15, 1942 – November 15, 1947, and then returned to serve from November <8, 1949 – May 6, 1954. The descriptions of the 9 photos are found below:

1. PZio001: Reverend Kaskinen is standing with a group of 15 confirmands on July 6, 1947. Reverend Kaskinen is standing in the back row on the far right. This Confirmation class had three boys and 12 girls. All of the children are holding a Bible. The girls are all wearing white choir robes with a corsage on the left shoulder and white shoes. The 3 boys are wearing black choir robes, and a flower on the left side of their chest. They are standing in front of the “Christ Preaching at the Sea of Galilee” painting in the old Finnish Evangelical Lutheran

2. PZio017: This photo shows Reverend Kaskinen standing in the back row, last on the left. He is pictured with 6 of the Sunday School faculty in the spring of 1950. Front row, 2nd from left is Sarah Kaskinen; 3rd from left is Dorothy Puotinen. Size: 8.25″ x 10″

3. PZio019: Reverend Kaskinen is standing with the Zion Lutheran Church choir in July 1950. He is standing in the back row, 2nd from the right. 18 other adults are standing with him; several in the front row are displaying their choir folders. Front row 1st on L is Sarah Kaskinen; 2nd from L is Salome Kaskinen.

Middle row 1st on L is Joyce Johnson. Size: 8.25″ x 10″
4. PZio020: Reverend Kaskinen with 14 other adults who made up the Church Board, Building Committee, and Building Fund Committee in 1950. The Reverend is standing on the far left in the back row. The men are all dressed in suits and ties, and there is one woman in the middle of the front row. There are two hard copies of this photo. Size: 8.25″ x 10″

5. PZio011: Group photo taken on July 16, 1950. It shows the congregation of the Finnish Evangelical Church, called Zion in 1944, standing outside the Old/Second Church building. Many of the people are standing on the steps, including Reverend Kaskinen, who can be seen standing in the middle of the steps wearing a dark robe and his clerical collar. The address of the church can be seen on a small sign above the steps.

6. PZio012: This photo is another view of the steps at the Old/Second Church, with another smaller group of congregation members standing on the steps and at the bottom of the steps. Reverend Kaskinen is standing in a dark robe and clerical collar near the top of the steps, on the right side. Size: 8.25″ x 10″
7. PZio013: The Aurora Club is standing on the steps of the Old/Second Church in this photo. They consist of 17 women in their best dresses, and Reverend Kaskinen standing in the second row, middle. Also taken in 1950. Size: 8.25″ x 10″
8. PZio045: This photo shows Reverend Kaskinen standing with the 11 confirmands from April 11, 1954. They are standing on the front steps in the sanctuary with the cross behind them.

There are 9 girls and 2 boys, all wearing white robes. The girls have corsages, and the boys have boutonnieres. Reverend Kaskinen is wearing a dark robe and his clerical collar; standing on the far left in the front row. 9. PZio031: The last photo is from an unknown year and an unknown background. It shows the Reverend Kaskinen and his wife, Ida Marie Kaarto Kaskinen, in their later years. Written on the bottom of the photo in cursive it says, “Christmas Greetings to Zion Sunday School.” Size: 3.5″ x 4.5″
