Copy of letter. Whereabouts of original manuscript unknown’, ‘William Lloyd Garrison writes to Aaron Cooley: “It is not in my power to obtain for you the sum you wish to raise, either as a gift or a loan. At present, I am straitened in my own circumstances, and therefore am unable to do for you what I otherwise would be glad to do.” An appeal to Wendell Phillips would be useless at this time due to the many requests of money directed to him.
