Binding: marbled paper (white, red, green) over pasteboard, half vellum. Spine label with title in gilt: BIRINGUC / LA / PIROTECH. Edges sprinkled red’, ‘Shelf mark in brown ink at foot of t.p. and t.p. verso: N III. no. That on the t.p. is written over an older, faded inscription’, ‘T.p. border incorporating female allegory of Venice at top and the Navò lion device at bottom. The lion recurs on a shield on the t.p. verso. The 84 cuts of this 1st ed. were re-used in the Navò eds. of 1550 and 1558-9; see Mortimer’, ‘Mortimer, R. Italian 16th cent.’, ‘Brunet
