Various protective coatings for unclad 2020 Al alloy were evaluated. Type II H2SO4 Anodic Coating imparts satisfactory corrosion resistance to unclad 2020 Al alloy. Alodine 1200 Chemical Film Treatment provides adequate protection to salt spray environment in accordance with Mil-C5541. However, the treatment does not prevent a considerable reduction in % elongation after humidity exposure.
