Description of the Book:

The results of a program are presented which demonstrate that low- speed-of-sound modeling is a practical tool for the research and development of high-pressure-ratio, high-speed centrifugal compressors. The compressor air performance and the details of its internal fluid dynamics were replicated at reduced rotational speed when a low-speed-of-sound gas was used, providing inlet Mach number, Reynolds number, and gas specific heat ratio were duplicated. Duplication of inlet specific heat ratio was essential to accurate modeling of the air-equivalent flow rate. Stage pressure ratio and stage efficiency were found to be less sensitive to the accurate replication of air-equivalent inlet specific heat ratio
