Description of the Book:

SCS PA 477 is a 52-foot-high, 1,550-foot-long dam. The embankment contains an impervious core constructed over a cutoff trench under the dam centerline. About 1,270 feet of the embankment is roughly parallel to U.S. Route 22/Interstate 78. The remaining 280 feet of the embankment forms an angle of about 60 degrees with the highway. The shorter leg contains the maximum section and the principal spillway. The principal spillway consists of a concrete drop inlet riser, a 222 foot long, 30 inch reinforced concrete pipe with eight anti-seep collars, and an impact basin. The emergency spillway was excavated through rock at the right abutment. The grass-lined trapezoidal channel is approximately 150 feet wide and 30 feet wide. The dam and its appurtenant facilities are considered to be in good condition. Calculations indicate that the existing spillway systems are capable of passing the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtopping.

Therefore, the spillway system is considered to be adequate
