More Book Details
Description of the Book:
An investigation of the many issues and problems associated with combat modeling at the theater-level for force planning was conducted and is presented in two volumes. Volume I is a transcript of the proceedings of a workshop whose agenda was structured to address gaming utility from the model user’s viewpoint, the status of theater-level simulation models and problems of model structure, theater-level combat modeling methodology, game theory in theater-level modeling, data base requirements for theater-level models and problems associated with the generation of data bases. Volume II constitutes a synthesis and summary of the issues and concerns that surfaced at the workshop relative to theater-level gaming and the diverse activities, both technical and organizational, that support such gaming. In addition, Volume II outlines requirements for further research and describes a number of approaches to such research that appear to be viable. The most crucial problem affecting the analytical or simulation modeling of combat at virtually any level of intensity is identified as the lack of a body of knowledge, or a theory, that defines the relationship between combat modeling and the conduct of war in the real world.
The importance of this issue was clearly established in workshop discussion and is addressed in considerable detail in Volume II
