Description of the Book:

Environmental temperature criteria are a major controlling factor in the design of all types of military materiel. A program was therefore undertaken to investigate the actual thermal environment of Department of Defense materiel to determine realistic limitations of thermal exposure. This report contains a detailed analysis of actual field measured data from a representative sample of 47 storage sites located throughout the free world. It also serves as a summary report on the detailed analysis of all the storage depots in the U.S. Navy system as well as selected non-Navy depots (NWC-TP-4143, Parts 1-6). Analysis of these data indicates that the high and low temperatures specified in military standards have never actually been encountered during the storage event of the materiel factory-to-use sequence
