Description of the Book:

This thesis provides a strategy for use by a Commanding Officer to plan and implement the Bases and Stations Information System (BASIS) at a Naval Shore activity. Specific areas discussed include: an overview of why proper information management is essential for a command, the background of why BASIS was developed, a discussion of problem areas encountered by the staff at Mather Air Force Base while implementing a system similar to BASIS, and implementation considerations for a command. Research for this thesis included current readings on the area of design and implementation of automated information systems along with interviews of several ADP Managers and Commanding Officers from San Diego area commands. A result of these interviews was direct insight of the needs and requirements perceived by the local commands to properly implement BASIS.
