The Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS) is a multinational (United States, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain) cooperative development program established to design, develop, and deliver low-volume, lightweight tactical information system terminals for U.S. fighter aircraft, as well as foreign fighter aircraft, helicopters, ships, and ground sites. The terminals will be designed as a Pre-Planned Product Improvement (P 1) of the Joint Tactical In formation Distribution System (JTIDS) Class 2 terminals. The U.S. cost to acquire the MIDS is estimated at about $1.2 billion
