Description of the Book:

To collect and disseminate information concerning law enforcement education in the United States, questionnaires were mailed to 362 colleges and universities with 257 returning the forms. A total of 261 law enforcement programs were offered at 234 separate educational institutions, with 199 associate, 44 baccalaureate, 13 master’s, and 5 doctorate degree programs offered. Ten states did not provide any degree programs at their colleges and universities. The number of law enforcement programs increased 306 percent from 1961 to 1968 and enrollment in the programs rose 147 percent from 1964 to 1967. For the purpose of this study, schools were considered to have law enforcement programs if they offered professional courses providing a reasonably complete core of knowledge in the area of law enforcement or police functions.
