Description of the Book:

This course description was developed by educators for use at the Work Opportunity Center which was established to teach high school dropouts and hard-core unemployed youth. The objectives of this reading curriculum are to develop skills of retarded readers, further develop skills of adequate readers, and develop an appreciation for reading. Instructional units which are taught on an individual basis in an innovative atmosphere, cover: (1) diagnosis of reading difficulty, (2) improvement of work recognition and analysis, (3) improvement of comprehension and interpretation, (4) improvement of reading rate, and (5) development of attitudes and interests. Also included in the description are a program evaluation, an annotated bibliography, teaching techniques and materials, and case studies.
