Description of the Book:

Designed to estimate the number of vocationally handicapped persons in Israel; to identify their demographic, social, physical and vocational characteristics; to ascertain the amount and nature of services received; and to identify the potential clients for rehabilitation, the research report describes the study undertaken. In order to identify the handicapped, questions were added to the questionnaire of the regular labor force sample survey; social workers (specialists in vocational rehabilitation) interviewed those identified by the questionnaire; and two teams composed of a physician and a vocational rehabilitation expert assessed the vocational rehabilitation prospects of the interviewees. From the sample it was estimated that approximately 2.9% of the total population in Israel are vocationally handicapped and that roughly 39.1% of them have reasonable prospects for rehabilitation. A major portion of the document is devoted to the characteristics of the vocationally handicapped, covering demographic, physical, social, and vocational characteristics. Social and rehabilitation services available and prospects for the future are outlined.
