Description of the Book:

All 2-year and 4-year colleges and universities in the United States were surveyed regarding registrations in foreign language courses. A total of 2,633 institutions responded, of which 2,341 reported enrollments in one or more foreign languages. In addition, a representative sample of 207 institutions and 286 foreign language departments were surveyed regarding the distribution of language course enrollments according to course level. Overall, registrations declined in ancient Greek and Russian, and Spanish continued to be the most commonly taught language. Twenty tables present full survey data by state or region for the seven most commonly taught languages and comparative data from 4 previous years.
