Description of the Book:
The Mott Foundation has been involved with the issue of teenage pregnancy for 15 years, and has supported a network of programs with the main objective of finding new ways to deal with the negative consequences of teenage pregnancy. This report, which reflects the Foundation’s perspective, is divided into six sections. The first provides an overview of the problem. The effect of teenage pregnancy on the family is described in the second section, while the third outlines programs that are sponsored by Mott. This is followed by detailed descriptions of two of these programs: (1) Health Education for Youth, an outreach project at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City, and (2) the Parent/Infant Interaction Program, conducted by the St. Louis, Missouri, Public Schools. Finally, the paper presents an interview with Dr. Anita M. Mitchell, head evaluator of the projects in the Mott network. Also included in the report is a list of steps for evaluating program impact.
