Description of the Book:

The design, implementation, and evaluation of faculty development programs have become a priority in both public and private institutions of higher education. This paper discusses a program that has been successful in meeting the needs of both experienced and new faculty members at The Autonomous University of the North East (UANE) in Mexico. The program at UANE features characteristics of effective programs as supported by the literature, including: (1) presentation of supportive theory of skills; (2) demonstration of competencies; (3) practice in simulated and actual settings; (4) structured and open-ended feedback; and (5) coaching for application (hands-on support and assistance). Other features of the program include individualization, grouping for training, incentives for participation, and administrative support. The paper briefly describes the program’s setting and its characteristics and the program’s design, objectives, content, delivery strategies, evaluation, and follow-up. Some outcomes are identified, and advantages and disadvantages are discussed.
