Description of the Book:

A discussion is provided of the importance of articulation between vocational training at the secondary and postsecondary levels in Quebec. In the first chapter, the Council of Colleges describes the characteristics of vocational training at the collegiate level, including information on student characteristics and types of training, differences between secondary and postsecondary training programs, and the geographic distribution of programs; the emergence of a new 5-year plan for secondary vocational education, including information on program content and program distribution; and the relationship between economic activity and secondary and postsecondary programs. In chapter 2, the Council analyzes educational, social, employment, and institutional trends which provide a common context for secondary and collegiate vocational training and can influence their articulation. Finally, chapter 3 reviews four principles for articulation: (1) the need to project enrollment growth by sector and program; (2) the need for complementary program content; (3) the effects of the geographic distribution of programs on their articulation; and (4) the needs for and limits of articulation in the development of vocational training as a continuous process.

Appendixes provide information on the number of vocational programs offered at the postsecondary level, equivalent European programs, and secondary program changes. Contains 35 references. (AC
