Description of the Book:
Application review is the most important part of the Department of Education’s funding process and is designed to ensure that projects are worthwhile and that awards are fair and impartial. The critical step in application review is competitive, objective evaluation by reviewers. This workbook was developed by the Department of Education to clarify reviewers’ responsibilities and to sharpen their review skills in order to improve the quality of the application reviews. The workbook provides guidelines for: (1) understanding the application-review process and the reviewer’s role and responsibilities; (2) comprehending the roles of other personnel; (3) reading and analyzing applications more efficiently; (4) applying selection criteria while reviewing an application; (5) writing detailed comments about an application’s strengths and weaknesses; (6) scoring applications correctly; and (7) serving on a panel.
