Description of the Book:
This report presents statistical information on the vocational education and training systems of 10 countries in Central and Eastern Europe: Albania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Slovenia. These materials precede the body of the report: introduction, guide to reading the report, and definitions. Chapter 1 provides an overview of the educational attainment levels of the population and of the relationship between these and unemployment. Chapter 2 examines the role of vocational education and training in the education systems of the countries concerned. First, the participation of young people in vocational education and training is compared to their participation in general education. Second, recent trends in vocational education and training at the upper secondary level are presented and analyzed. Third, the relative internal effectiveness of vocational education and training systems is assessed by examining dropout rates from vocational education and training courses and from general education courses at the upper secondary level.
Fourth, information is provided on the relative levels of expenditure on vocational education and training by countries in Central and Eastern Europe. Both chapters take account of differences in gender and/or age. The basic plan of the report is to alternate comparative illustrations (both graphs and tables) with comments that highlight the essential points. A final chapter summarizes key findings. (YLB
