Description of the Book:

Holograph, signed’, ‘Title devised by cataloger’, ‘William Cooper Nell writes William Lloyd Garrison informing him that “the magnetism of [Garrison’s] presence” was greatly missed at the meeting at Jay Street Church the previous Monday. Nell states that Charles Lenox Remond was unwell, and that both Judge Russell and Robert Morris promised to be in attendance but were not present. Nell states that Rev. R.C. Waterton and Charles W. Slack both gave speeches. Nell asserts that the presentation given by the Union Progressive Association was a surprise to me, and that, by his estimates, “other interests among the Colored People” kept attendance at least 100 persons below his expectation. Nell states that his primary care is the completion of his book, and that he is considering writing and publishing a pamphlet on the “History of Crispus Attucks with a summary of the Commemorative Meeting
