Description of the Book:

This is the 1965 report of the Committee on the Preservation and Use of Economic Data to the Social Science Research Council. The “Ruggles Report” was a report discussed federally created economic data and the roles and responsibilities of federal agencies and research institutions in the preservation and use of economic data. The report Evaluated and gave an inventory of punchcards and Computer Tapes of Economic Data held by Federal Agencies. The report was one of the first discussions of the creation of a US national Data Center where computers could be leveraged in the collection, preservation and use of economic data created by federal agencies. Ruggles would appear the next year (1966) to discuss the findings of the committee at a Congressional hearing entitled, “The computer and invasion of privacy.” Hearings, Eighty-ninth Congress, second session.
