Description of the Book:

This issue examines the Currency and Coins used by Vermont since its inception as a State. It is presented in extensive detail by Sanborn Partridge, President of the Historical Society at this time.
Prior to the Revolution, crown taxes created a scarcity of hard money. With no countrywide coinage, merchants demanded either silver or gold coins in payment. This led to a demand of a more efficient system.
Vermont led the field, and was the first to introduce copper coins with the legislature denoting the value and weight of each. Numerous photos add interest, showing examples of paper currency and coins in use at the time. An extensive bibliography allows further research
