Attributed to David Lloyd by Wing CD and the DNB’, ‘First printed London, 1631 under title: The legend of Captaine Jones’, ‘Another edition printed for E. Oakes for Francis, Haley, 1671 (Wing (2nd ed.) L2633)’, ‘A satire, in verse, on Captain John Smith, giving references to Florida and America’, ‘”The legend of Captain Jones”, p. 1-18, 2nd count, preceded by numerous pages of verse. Of note are: “Ionos epithrenomen”, p. [7-8], 1st count, the text of which is in Greek and the title of which is transliterated from the Greek; “After Captain Jones his great conquest in the Indies, these verses were ingraven on a pillar of gold, in the famous city of Chiapa”, p. [9], 1st count, which is a combination of Spanish and Maya languages; and “By the assistance of Mr. Gage his rules to learn that Indian tongue call’d Poconchi, thus faithfully and verbatim translated into English”, p.
[10], 1st count, which is signed E.L.L’, ‘”The legend of Captain Jones: continued from his first part to his end: wherein is delivered his incredible adventures and achievements by sea and land.
