Description of the Book:

The Man in the Panther’s Skin, by Shota Rustaveli (1172-1216), translated by Marjory Wardrop (London, 1912), is Georgia’s exquisite national epic. It is a love story which also symbolically alludes to the lives of Georgia’s Queen Tamar (1184-1212) and her Armenian commander-in-chief Zakare. It also reveals, among many other things, the chivalrous ideals of the period and the wealth and exoticism of the court which enjoyed war booty, tribute, and the fruits of trade with far-flung states.
